We know that Joseph Hixson was born ca 1746 because the 1776 census for MD states that he was 30 years old when the census was taken. We know that Joseph, Jr. NEVER lived in Loudoun Co. VA No place of birth is documented and none can be written down.

Eleanor is a bit of a mystery, not being mentioned in Joseph's Will. In court she was called the daughter of Susannah Hixson as opposed to the daughter of Joseph and Susannah. She was presumably born ca 1764

Now, how do we know that Eleanor even took the name Hixson? I have not seen one record that says Eleanor Hixson. She is always Bowman. Someone has just assumed that because she was related she MUST be a Hixson which apparently she is NOT. What we need is a marriage record which MIGHT give her surname, but even then we will not know for sure. She could have assumed the name Hixson to be like the rest of the family.
Eleanor died in the 1830's in Greene Co. TN. She is called "Nellie" by Sparling in his RW pension papers. - Eleanor Edmondson with help from Delores Straight and Gladys Brown

Sparling Bowman was taken to court by the Hixson children after Susanna died ca 1823 in Greene Co. The Hixsons did not like it because Susanna, their mother, had given Eleanor items before she died. I hardly think that Eleanor was a child of Joseph or else they would not have attacked her in court. The Hixsons apparently felt like Eleanor should receive NOTHING because it had been part of Joseph's property at one time. However, it was Eleanor and Sparling who took care of Susannah because the others had moved to Bledsoe Co. or died. Since Joseph left Eleanor nothing, I think that Susanna felt sorry for her daughter not getting anything from Joseph. I also think that Susanna felt that she should give Eleanor something BEFORE she died for taking care of her. However, it backfired and the Hixsons went to court.

Another mistake is the name William Andrew Davis. My ancestor is just plain old William Davis. The William Andrew Davis that lived in Bledsoe Co. TN was the son of Andrew Davis who was a RW soldier. He leaves a pension naming issue and wife. He then moved to AL where he died. I have talked with his descendants.

Now, there is a Joseph, Jr. who is living in Hunterdon Co. NJ at the very SAME time that my Joseph is living in MD, (writes Eleanor Edmondson). I believe that that Joseph in NJ is very likely the son of Joseph, Sr. ... One Joseph Hixson was from Hunterdon Co. NJ and was a teamster during the RW. One Joseph was from Washington Co. MD and signed an Oath plus giving military service. The MD one is mine and the one from NJ isn't.
