- James Hickson, born 1607 at or near Melton Mowbray. He was a citizen and brewer living in London in 1680
and died 1689, a very wealthy man. He built Almshouses for six poor people in South Mimms.
He also founded a school in Plough Yard at All Hallows Barking for the education of 20 poor children.
A white marble monument was erected in his favour, however it was heavily bombed during the first
world war and no trace exists any longer
