Dear Sir & Cousin
Having lately been in Newcastle upon urgent business, I paid a flying visit to my cousin Mrs Hutcheson from whom I obtained your address, as I was informed you had manifested a desire to see or hear from me. I regret that the circumstances of my life have kept me a stranger from my Father's Kindred and should be very glad and willing to communicate with you to the end of knowing and being made known to you. I am a married man without family and hold a good position in one of the best Shipowning Companies in London viz the New Zealand Shipping Company. As we are total strangers and you may perhaps wish us to remain so I leave it to yourself to reply to this initiative only assuring you that I have long wished to know something of my Father's family and whom practically I have never known. In return I should have great pleasure in giving you every information on my side. Hoping to receive a reply from you in due course, with best wishes for your health and welfare.
I am
Dear Sir
Yours very sincerely
Robert Stanley Mitcalfe
