Dear Mr Bergh
The enclosed photo, of your father, so much reminds me of another photograph that I looked for and found the latter - which I now enclose for inspection and return. I also enclose two letters the 17th and 25th March 1878 from my cousin Robert Stanley Mitcalfe, and think you will agree with me that there is a strong resemblance between your father and R.S.M. whose photograph it is - they are full cousins and, as Mr Hutchinson of 28 Belsay Place is mentioned in one of the letters, I have referred to the Newcastle directory and find no trace of him at that address - but there is a George Hutchinson (Ellenger & Coy.) of 34 Eldon Street, Newcastle and at the same address George Mills Hutchinson resides.
My sister thinks that Mrs Ellenger was engaged to Fred Bergh before he married Jane Rattray and there is little doubt that the Hutchinsons referred to above, are grandsons or great-grandsons of Mrs Mills née Bergh. It is probable that they will know whether any of these Mitcalfes or Mills are alive but R.S.M. must be about 80 years of age now if he is alive and I received no reply to the last letter I wrote addressed to 61 St Pauls Road. I also think I enquired at the offices of "The New Zealand Shipping Coy" but I am not sure as to this.
I remain
Yours very faithfully
STANLEY MITCALFE
