20th March 1905.
Dear Mr Bergh,
I have kept a lookout in the "Times" for an announcement of your marriage and, as you tell me that you have settled down at Chiswick, presume that I have overlooked it?
If so please accept my very best wishes for your future welfare. My congratulations will doubtless follow when I know and am able to appreciate the prize you have won.
Our old lady (Miss Johnson) has been out of sorts lately but I trust will be all right again shortly - she has recently been knitting neckties for all of the male members of the family and, if you care for the colour, will be glad if you will accept the enclosed in memory of your grandmother who was a great favourite. I prefer a darker tie with more substance in it, and if you return the enclosed, she will be glad to knit another, as although in her 96th year, she is never so happy as when she is able to knit.
I shall be very glad to pay you a visit if I have time when next in London but, as you are now settled, think you should first bring your wife for a weekend to see North Country and our grand old lady.
I remain, Yours very faithfully,
STANLEY MITCALFE
