Today we went to Coober Pedy, in the heart of outback South Australia,
where we stayed for 2 nights in an underground hotel.
The Coober Pedy Experience Motel.
This was mined from 1918 until the 1960's. Between 1990 & 2001 it was transformed
into an underground Motel Complex
Coober Pedy is nothing but red sand ... and holes in the ground made by people digging for opal
The town has more opal on diplay than anywhere else in the world.
Nearly every Motel, caravan Park and Camping Ground has opal on display and over
20 reputable shops in the main street have opal from the Coober Pedy Opal Fields.
