Herr Burgomeister,
From the Register of Baptisms of 1748 of this Parish is results that Franz Christoph August Berg, legitimate son of the buttonmaker Frans Berg and of his wife Elsabe Anna (no further name given), was born 21 Dec. 1748 and baptised 23 Dec. 1748.
From the Register of Marriages of 1747 it further results that Franz Berg, Buttonmaker's apprentice (or workman - gesell), legitimate son of Johann Berg, Buttonmaker in Bredstadt* (?) and Elizabeth Ann Hertsfelden daughter of the late John William Hertzfeld......<(?). Dyer ** (farber) of Copenhagen were married here on April 9 1747.
There can be no doubt that the name Hertzfeld or Hertsfelden is identical with the written Hasfeld in the enclosed letter of enquiry. But the family is not of this place. I have, it is true, not yet searched the Registers fully in regard to this matter, but will do so if required. I am however able to certify to the two items above; and I think it more advisable to communicate this result at once.
With best compliments,
(Signed) E. Keck, Pastor.
* Herr Keck's two first letters here are impossible to make out. The town is ??edstadt. (Encyclopaedia Brit. Atlas gives "Bredstedt" near Friedrichstadt in Schleswig. - F.R.B.
** The Register itself was here undecipherable and Herr Keck has filled up the space with dots. The word "farber" may very well be only the mutilated fragment of some other term.
