Son of Augustus Bergh and Sarah Sibsey his wife was born at Boston 2nd June 1811*. He also became Master of one of his Father's vessels but preferred the more luxurious career of husband to an heiress. He married on the 20th January 1840 at St. James' Church, Clerkenwell, Jane only daughter of James Rattray. ("Times" 23rd January 1840). Thereupon he gave up seafaring and settled down to enjoying himself. They lived at Brixham, Eastbourne and Stockwell London.
He died of Cholera in London on the 8th September 1849 and is buried in the South Metropolitan Cemetery, Horwood. Grave 2403 Sq.61 (East of Tayloe 1981).
He and his brother-in-law, Captain John Mills had their portraits painted in oils on one of their trips to Italy and this portrait is in the possession of the Hutchinsons. Copies in the possession of his son Henry John and Grandson Francis Rattray.
Shortly before his death on the occasion of some dinner party, he was observed to return from a journey to get some article looking vry shaken and he explained that on opening the door of the room where the article was he found himself face to face with himself.

He died at No.6 (now 1911 No.11) Stockwell Park Road. The old Grammar School then adjoining is now used as a work shop and is shortly to be pulled down. The Abbot went there as a boy. F.R.B.
He played the flute. He was also a Special Constable at the time of the Chartist Riots. F.R.B.
